Join us for the May Membership Luncheon as we explore trends for the health care industry. Speakers are Tony McLean, President, Franciscan Health System, Saint Francis Hospital; Julie Sylvester, MPA, Executive Director, Business Development, Virginia Mason; and Brett Thomas, Marketing and Business Development, MultiCare Occupational Medicine. Luncheon Speakers:
Julie Sylvester, MPA, Executive Director, Business Development. Sylvester has held multiple leadership positions at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, where she has worked for nearly 20 years. She has held healthcare administration positions in the financial and clinical operations, including serving as administrative director of analytics and finance and the director of contracting, as well as overseeing the Heart and Cancer Institutes. In her current role, Executive Director of Business Development, she is responsible for supporting relationships with employers, brokers and payers to foster partnerships to align value, quality and service.
Additionally, for three years, Ms. Sylvester served in the role of Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety for Qualis Health. Her primary role included providing strategic and operational leadership of public- and private-sector programs dedicated to improving healthcare quality and safety. These programs include Qualis Health's activities as the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Idaho and Washington, and numerous grants and contracts to help primary care clinics across the country become high-performing patient-centered medical homes.
Tony McLean has served as president of St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way since October 2008. In addition to his duties as president of the community hospital, he provides regional executive oversight for CHI Franciscan Health’s orthopedics, neurosciences, rehabilitation, and bariatric service lines.
Prior to joining the Franciscan organization, he was vice president of operations at Virginia Mason Health System in Seattle where he provided oversight for clinical service lines and ambulatory care. Before that, he was administrative director of orthopedics and musculoskeletal care at Virginia Mason. He serves as president of the South Puget Sound American Heart Association board. He is also a member of the ACHIEVE health coalition board and serves on the Washington State Hospital Association’s Public Policy Committee.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a master’s degree in health administration from The Ohio State University in Columbus.
